Best Bars and Restaurants in Crested Butte and Gunnison, CO | Jeramie's picks

Checking our touristy shops in Crested butte

The town of Crested Butte is located  in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It is about 4 and half hours away from Denver. We spent our New Years in this town and in Gunnison in the hopes of being able to ski. Unfortunately, they did not get a lot of snow during our visit so we resorted to an unplanned bar hopping and food hunting. Here are some of our favorites restaurants and bars that we have tried both in Gunnison and Crested Butte.

1. Secret Stash Pizzeria - It is located on the main strip in the town of Crested Butte. We initially did not include this place to our list of restaurants to visit but all other restaurants were closed at that time and we accidentally found this place. What I like about this place is that it was somewhat affordable. We were very hungry and we wanted something fast and inexpensive and to our rescue, they have slices of pizza ready to be served. If I remember it correctly, I had 3 choices to choose from. We ordered pizza slices and beers. The pizza tasted decent, they are worth the price and worth the stop. Mind their interior design, you will see a lot of patterns, curtains, elephants and even their washroom has a lot of decorations. It was almost very overwhelming but it worked.

2. Last Steep Bar & Grill - It is also located in the main strip in Crested Butte called the Elk Ave. This bar is a family-owned joint offering burgers, wraps and drinks. The bar is on the second floor of the building and going in the bar, I saw a bunch of people. It was a very cozy bar, the tables and chairs are so close together, the hallway was very tiny, enough for one person to pass but this was one of the best bars in Crested Butte. No wonder, there's a lot of people there, they don't mind the tiny space as long as they get served with good food and god drinks. We did not eat here but we stayed at the bar. Everyone loved their food and I loved the bartender more. She was very nice and very accommodating even if she was busy pouring drinks for thristy people. lol She made one of the best bloody mary's I ever had. They have local beers on tap as well as general beers on tap.  I highly recommend this place.

3. Montanya Distillers - Located in Elk Ave in the town of Crested Butte. This was recommended by our bartender at Last Steep Bar. She said they have really good mixed drinks and really good rum. We decided to stop by and had their rum tasting, ordered their mixed drinks and sure enough, we fell in-love with them. This distillery offers cocktails, rum tastings for their own signature rums, and they had a decent tasting Japanese ramen. I ordered their Dark and Snowy which is made of their Oro rum and my husband ordered the Momma Dance which was one of their specials on that day. I swear, they were delicious. The next day, we decided to go back to the same distillery and this time I ordered a Mojito and my husband ordered a Pina Colada and a bowl of ramen. Everything was delicious! We ended up buying a bottle of their Oro rum to take home with us. Well done Montanya, well done!

4. Eldo Brewery and Taproom - A Sunny place for shady people. It is located on the second floor of a building in Elk Ave. They have a nice deck where you can watch people walk by the streets while you enjoy the sun and their beers. They have a good variety of beers and food. My husband ordered the Amber and he loved it, he paired it with wings which made his day. I had two glasses of their delicious margarita, the bartender was extremely accommodating and efficient, I watched her make my margarita and I saw that she muddled lemon and orange before mixing in triple sec and tequila. It was one of the best margaritas I have ever tasted in my life. We enjoyed their food, beers, mixed drinks and the live band. We would definitely come back.

5. Añejo Bistro & Bar - Is a Tex-Mex bar and restaurant located in the town of Gunnison, CO. Our hotel is about 3 blocks away from this bar and one night we wanted to walk around town without having to drive back, we wanted to try every bar that serves great food and drinks. Our first stop was this bar. First of, they had the biggest $5 18oz Margarita and it was very strong. I remember not finishing the rest of it because if I did, I would have to crawl back to our hotel. lol
Other than that, the people in the bar were nice and accommodating, the food was great and the margarita was good but was just very strong for us. I would recommend this place specially if you want a strong margarita to start your night.

6. High Alpine Brewing Company - It is also located in the town of Gunnison. I absolutely love this brewery and we made sure to come back the next day to enjoy their beer. They have a decent variety of beers on tap and delicious variety of food as well. For the two times we visited this brewery, we always sat on the bar. The bartenders are nice and friendly and was efficient in serving everyone at the bar. I have to say that this was my kind of brewery because they had a lot of dark beers on tap. I love stouts, browns and porters and they have all of them on the menu. We ordered a flight to try some of their beers and we ended up ordering the Gunnygold (Kölsch)  and my favorite Jah Brown Ale. I highly recommend this place for good beers in Gunnison.

7. Ol' Miner Steakhouse - Is located on Gunnison. It is a Family-owned spot for steaks & seafood featuring a salad bar & rustic decor with lots of taxidermy. We came here for dinner and they did not disappoint. Obviously, we were not able to take some pictures of our food and drinks because we were starving and also because their food was delicious, we did not have time to take a snap. I remember I had their soup of the day which I think was a potato soup with some meat in it and my husband ordered a french dip which was bomb digs. Their bar was on the second floor, I absolutely love their decor and their theme.

8. The Gunnisack - The last on our list is still located in Gunnison. This place serves home-style American meals & sandwiches with a Southwestern kick in a homey, rustic space with a bar. They have good beers on tap and good food as well as far as I can remember. I had too many drinks before we went to this bar. lol Nevertheless, I am sure we had fun and I would come back and enjoy this place sober.

Thank you guys for stopping by and checking out my blog.

Hiking in South Table Mountain in Golden, CO

Next stop is South Table mountain. If you had the time to read my previous post, this is the continuation of my adventure. After doing the free brewery tour at Coors Brewery, we went to do a little hike to the South Table mountain. It is a "mesa" on the eastern flank of the front range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. OMG that was a mouthful. To simplify it, The South table mountain is about 10 minutes away from the Coors Brewery. They are both located in Golden, CO.

It is a pretty mountain with a flat cap that is formed my ancient lava flows. It does look like a table when you see it down below, hence, the name south table mountain. (duh). We went in October so we saw some pretty colors from the trees and bushes surrounding the area.

Love my hiking shoes

This trail is labelled easy on Alltrails.com, it is a relatively short hike and would give you a wonderful view once you reach the top. For the first few minutes I thought it was really easy because the trail was well marked but as we started to make up way up to the top, our friend, Ted did the short-cut straight up to the mountain instead of following trail. I was slowly running out of breath, my body was slowly getting tired and I could hardly move my legs. I realized, I had 3 beers from the brewery tour before we did the hike. I kept going and followed our friend who was creating his own trail and I found myself crawling, holding on tot he bushes and tree roots just to get to the top. The elevation was killing me.

These yoga pants are very comfortable and made of thick material

After that little detour, they knew I needed something easier so we just followed the trail and then it was an easy breezy beautiful climb for me.

The view was priceless and I kept looking down and looking up while hiking up the mountain. It was indeed an easy trail and you would see older people hiking, biking and we said hi to adorable dogs.

After maybe 40 minutes, we reached the top and the view was stunning. We spent more time walking around, taking pictures and just enjoying the view. You could see the town of Golden, downtown Denver from afar and the Coors Brewery. I am so thankful to have been able to see this view and to even hike this mountain.

Beautiful view

Overall, the hike was easy enough for me not to die (lol), the view was beautiful and I would love to go back and to the hike again. If you are in good shape and you're used to the elevation, then this is a piece of cake. At the end of the day, I learned not to drink beer before doing a hike specially if you are not used to the elevation (Note to self).

Thank you guys for stopping by and checking out my blog. I wore a very comfortable outfit on this hike and if you want to check those out, I have the links below;

*Casual short sleeve quick dry top
*Yoga pants dry fit
*Sugarpine hiking boots
 *Camelbak Lobo hydration pack

Free Beers and Free Tour at Coors Brewery Tour in Golden, CO

Living in Colorado has its perks. I mean, lots of it. When I moved here from the Philippines, a lot of my friends told me that it is one of the coldest states in the US and I will have a miserable time living here and quite honestly, it made me worried and made me feel a little scared. I am used to the humidity, sunny days, commute and impromptu getaways with my friends when I was still living in Cebu. Aahhhhh, the beach, the seafood, the cheap street foods and the good food during fiesta and family birthday parties.
But I kept my hopes high and a positive mind since Matt (my husband) is very supportive of me. I thought to myself, Matt wouldn't move here for no reason at all. After living here for more than a year, I am totally in love with this place. Denver is not a bad place to live at all. We have had many adventures, we have been to many places and drank a lot of beers so here is one of my favorite adventure with my husband and our great photographer friend, Ted. If you live in Colorado, you should do this at least once and I promise you that you will never regret it. Read til the end since I have a bonus tip for you.

Okay so sometime in October of 2017, we decided to do the Coors Brewery Tour. It was such a no-brainer decision to make, I mean we live like 15 minutes away from the Coors Brewery and we have never been there. The Coors Brewery in Golden, CO is world’s largest single-site brewery, you get a  30-minute self-paced tour highlighting the malting, brewing and packaging processes. Don't forget, you have to be at least 18 years of age to participate but an adult can always accompany you if you're a minor. We arrived at the main building where you have to wait in line for your turn to get into the bus that will take you to the brewery tour. We reached our destination and the first thing I saw was the huge Coors sign in front of the building and a huge pot, I knew it was time for a picture! *snap!

We then went inside to register (Tip: Don't forget to bring your ID). We were given a wrist band and a hand held electronic guide that tells you more about the brewery as you walk along the marked path. I was really amazed to see how big the brewery was and the machines that they use to brew their beers.

It was fun to know the different ingredients to brew their beers, I have learned that the quality of hops and malts were important in the brewing process but I had the most fun watching how fast it was to bottle a beer. It's crazy to know that they make hundreds of thousands of beers on a daily basis. Then we stopped at a little tap room for free sample of  4oz beers.

We followed the recording which lead us to the very end of the tour which was the bigger tap room. They gave us three 10oz beer of your choice and I chose 2 Blue Moons and a Coors Banquet. It was a fun tour, you get free beers and all is absolutely free of charge.

Yes, it was a free tour and we got free beers! It was a good experience and I would do it again because of the 3 10oz beers at the end of the tour. I have a tip for you: You don't have to do the whole self-face tour, you can skip the whole tour process and just head directly to the tap room and get your free beers! Your welcome.
